How does yoga at Down Dog differ from other forms?

Yoga at Down Dog is Baptiste Power Vinyasa; a flowing athletic practice that stresses motion and freedom over perfection in each pose. No matter who you are, no matter what your level of fitness or experience - if you're willing to sweat, you'll fit in at Down Dog.

Are beginners welcome at Down Dog?

Absolutely! Because yoga at Down Dog allows you to move and discover at your own pace, you can participate in almost any class. Take it slowly at first. Try to complete 10 classes during your first three weeks. You'll build a base of strength and flexibility, along with an intellectual understanding that will help you integrate yoga into your life.

You may also take advantage of our special Intro to Power Vinyasa Workshops or Power Yoga Beginner classes, where you'll focus on foundational postures, alignment, physical conditioning and mind-body connections. Check Class Schedules for days and times.

How challenging will the classes be for me?

Your first classes may be difficult as you begin moving your body in new, healthy ways. You'll sweat, twist, lunge, reach and balance as you build strength and flexibility. But you control the intensity of each pose as you flow through the process. Soon, you'll experience small victories. Over time, your progress will be amazing!

What if I'm not all that flexible?

Actually, many people, especially athletes, aren't particularly flexible. With time, yoga will contribute that dimension of flexibility to everything you do. Meanwhile, we encourage you to develop a flexible mind. Just let go. Focus on breathing, sweating and moving. Allow each yoga movement to release tension, dissolve brittleness and blockage, and naturally expand your range of motion.

How often should I practice?

Consistency is the key to success. A practice of 4-6 times per week can be life-changing. A practice of 2-3 times per week will transform you a little more slowly. The important thing is to make yoga a healthy, regular part of your life.
